The school was opened on 1st April 1940 and was built quickly to cater for evacuees from London who were billeted on the Sandhills estate. T he building was largely made of wood and, over the years, proved difficult and costly to maintain.
However, the school remained largely in its original state until December 2002 when a brand new building was completed. Sandhills school opened for the first time in the new building in January 2003.
